Frequently
asked questions
-
Where are West End Experience Workshops held?We come to you! West End Experience Workshops take place in your school hall or gymnasium ideally, or a large classroom.
-
How is the West End Experience Workshop day structured? Our workshops are flexible to best meet your needs, but are normally structured to reach a whole one form entry school in a day. Sessions last around 35-40 minutes, with an optional full-school assembly performance from the facilitator, to introduce the workshops and get the students enthusiastic about what's to come. Each Primary Key Stage is catered for and each child has the opportunity of an ‘In the Spotlight moment’ in the form of a performance for the teacher. We also provide half-day workshops.
-
What if the hall is used for events or lunches etc?We can structure the day around your needs - we can accommodate half day bookings and always allow breaks for lunches etc.
-
What do we need to provide?West End Experience Workshop Leaders come entirely self-sufficient including all music and teaching aides, so only require electricity supply.
-
Do the students need to have any dance experience? Not at all! Our West End Experience Workshop Leader will lead simple movements and encourage creative thinking so every child can get involved.
-
Will the students need to bring or prepare anything? The children can come in their regular school uniform, but we recommend they wear their PE kit. Footwear is not stipulated but we recommend trainers or school shoes rather than socks, as they can become very slippery when the children are burning up the dance floor! Before a Literacy workshop, for example for World Book Day, we recommend the students have covered the book in class beforehand.
-
Are your workshop leaders DBS checked?Yes. All West End Experience Workshop leaders hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.
-
What are some of the benefits could the dance workshops bring my students? It is well documented that children learn in a variety of ways. Physical movement enhances a range of skills, including creativity, teamwork and physical literacy, and can assist greatly with classroom teaching. This article from the British Council outlines some of the benefits of using performing arts to assist education.
-
What are some of the cross-curricular activities can I expect from the workshop?West End Spotlight is one of the only providers of theatre workshops that offer bespoke Teacher Resource Packs, containing dozens of ideas for cross-curricular work. Covering STEM topics as well as arts and humanities, there is bound to be activities that pique the interest of your students to support and enhance the dance workshop.
-
Do you require payment before or after the workshop? Our invoices are created 1-2 weeks before the workshop takes place, and we normally allow 30 days for payment after the workshop. We can extend this if payment is processed by a local authority or similar. Contact the team for more information.
